At Sage Creek, we live and learn on the traditional lands of the Cree and Metis people. We acknowledge their presence on our prairie landscape in Treaty Four Territory and celebrate our past and present connections to the land and what it teaches us about food security, balance and resilience. As a science and outdoor education teacher in the public sector for more than two decades, Kristen Simonson is dedicated to the idea of teaching, playing and learning outside. With degrees in both Biology and Education, and trained in both Forest School and National Geographic teaching and learning styles, Kristen combines her passion for nature with the beautiful wild Saskatchewan prairie to make each session at Sage Creek a memorable one.
"When a child is taken outside and allowed to experience nature, it's magical....there are so many moments which inspire awe. There are endless opportunities for navigating risk, making social connections, and differentiating activities and learning. The more we play, the more we learn about ourselves and our connection to nature."
Join her and her staff for a session in 2022, and see how we do things differently!
Humans are hard-wired to be in nature, and we thrive when we are outside enjoying our wild and natural spaces. Our goal is to provide safe and skill-appropriate opportunities for all of our learners to reconnect with nature.
This is what we were up to in 2021!!
Our school is lucky to have FOUR onsite outdoor spaces; our early years free play zone, our permanent outdoor classroom space and fire circle, our rugged space at our "beyond classroom" coulee site, and our brand new food forest! We also travel to unique spaces in and around the Swift Current area.
Our adventures are planned and led by dedicated and experienced nature lovers. Using a mix of biology, environmental science, outdoor education, Forest School Principles, and a whole lot of fun, they make it possible for everyone to reconnect with the outdoors.
Welcome to Southwest Saskatchewan's newest outdoor school and nature program!
